Video Production Network Administrator

JOB DESCRIPTION:

We are currently seeking a Video Production Network Administrator to join our team. This position will assist in managing the technical infrastructure of a video production and broadcast office that creates and distributes videos worldwide across multiple platforms. This will include maintaining and updating software, hardware, a complete media management server and applicable vendor relations. It is for a Mid-Level  Linux  Administrator/Engineer in a mixed and growing environment currently supporting MS Windows server 2008 R2/2012R2/2016/2019, Microsoft SQL 2012/2014/2017, MS Windows 2010, VMWare 6.x. and OEL 6x-7x, and OSx Operating systems along with multiple Commercial off the shelf (COTS) and custom applications.

Location: Washington, D.C. metropolitan area

RESPONSIBILITES:

  • Install, configure, and maintain an organization’s local area network (LAN), data communications network, operating systems, and physical and virtual servers.

  • Review System and application logs and verify completion of scheduled jobs, including system backups.

  • Analyze network and server resource consumption and control user access.

  • Install and upgrade software and maintain software licenses.

  • May assist in network modeling, analysis, planning, and coordination between network and data communications hardware and software.

  • Plan, implement, patch, upgrade, or monitor security measures for the protection of computer networks and information.

  • Ensure appropriate security controls are in place that will safeguard digital files and vital electronic infrastructure. Responds to computer security breaches and viruses

  •  Perform pro-active SolarWinds monitoring of network elements and alerts to identify those components/elements that are causing or may lead to service degradation or failure

  • Maintain SolarWinds server and dashboards to monitor the network systems and applications for events and outages, create and route tickets to the appropriate engineering teams, and communicate events and outages to management

  • Interact with customers and engineering teams in support of both routine and reactionary monitoring situations via email, tickets and phone

  • In depth understanding of Broadcast media network Topology and design

  • Working knowledge of Live Broadcast media streaming platforms and formats such as RTMP and Mpeg TS streams

  • Manage and Maintain Palo Alto FW ACLs and other admin parameters such as VPN access and QOS

  • Working and design knowledge of Layer 3 routing, PTP, Multicast, SMPTE 2110, Dante’, AES-67

  • Create and maintain System Topology drawings and documentation

QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Capable of being proactive and working independently with minimal technical direction

  • Communicate in an effective manner

  • Working knowledge of OSx management tools (JAMF, SolarWinds, etc.)

  • This position will assist in planning, executing, and implementing new system hardware and software and create and maintain team technical instructions, operating procedures and policies as needed

  • This position will need to be adept at monitoring and tuning system performance, ongoing operation of the servers, hardening of the servers and reporting of the overall security and operational status

  • The position will also recommend improvements to the enterprise and manage new software/hardware integrations when required while also providing utilization reports using existing tools to identify problems and corrective actions as needed

  • The position will Manage static IP databases. We do not use ant DHCP.

  • This position will provide support towards the lifecycle of a mixed environment of vendor equipment in the datacenter to include firmware version control and periodic preventive maintenance.

  • This position will also need to be able to recommend, demonstrate, and implement technologies to help expand, upgrade, and increase efficiencies to the current environment.

  • Five or more years’ experience designing, developing, documenting, implementing, and maintaining complex end-to-end system/application monitoring capabilities in a complex network preferably utilizing Linux/Unix based systems.

  • Three more years’ experience in automating assigned tasks utilizing PowerShell and/ or Linux scripting technologies such as bash

  • Five or more years’ experience working in an environment with complex networking solutions with senior level fundamental knowledge in networking principles

  • Five or more years’ experience creating, maintaining, following Standard Operating Procedures for repeatable processes, disaster recovery, and common problem resolution

  • Strong interpersonal skills and willing to be a team player

Required education:

  • BA +10 years (Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent)

Required license, certification, and/or clearance:

  • Secret Security Clearance
